Setting up the Spin Chicks podcast isn’t just all talk. As we continue to work on our guest list, creative brief, connecting with sponsors, and more, we need to have a crystal clear sound recording. Discover more about the Spin Chicks podcast today!
In looking for a microphone, we read a lot of reviews and articles. You can spend a thousand dollars or more on the perfect mic. But we aren’t looking to go that route. We are looking for a well-tested starter mic for our podcast.
Research on Podcast Microphones
Based on our research and conversations, prior to opening any of the other boxes I ordered from Amazon, we wanted to try out the Blue Yeti. The Blue Yeti receives rave reviews across the board so we are ready to leap in with both feet to try it out.
Blue Yeti ($109.99 on Amazon).
First, the Blue Yeti is a gorgeous blue and just looks fancy. The mic itself features three condenser capsules that allow the user to record in most any situation. On the backside, the recording sensitivity can be controlled with the gain knob. Below that, is a knob for four patterns: stereo, cardioid, bidirectional and omnidirectional. On the front of the mic, the mute/unmute button is easy to use and blinks on and off when on mute. Adjusting the mic volume is as easy as turning the knob on the front below the mute button.
Under the mic, there is an integrated headphone amp and jack for real time monitoring with no delay. The mic connects to the computer with one simple USB cable.
The mic stand features knobs on both sides that make it easy to position it perfectly. When not in use, the mic turns down for safe storage.
Testing Out the Blue Yeti Microphone
We tested this mic out on a Zoom recording again as well as GarageBand on the MacBook Pro. Silky smooth sound! DONE! Erika and I both love this mic. We highly recommend it if you are on a podcast or even a lot of Zoom calls
To eliminate any noise, we will add a pop filter, economically priced at $10.99 on Amazon. The arm hooks below and is easily adjustable.
